SILVER FLASH CRASH

Around 7:00 p.m. ET Thursday, the price of silver plunged 11 percent from $16.14 to $14.34 an ounce.  However, it was short-lived.  Wall Street couldn't name a fundamental reason for the drop, but considered it another case of computer-driven trading that disrupted markets during a period when few were actively trading.  The drop occurred outside of New York business hours.

I remember the stock market flash crash in May 2010.  It was pretty tense for a few minutes.  Flash crashes are on the rise.  Computer trading has gone too far.  We need more controls.  Will this become a serious problem in the future?  Stay tuned

UNITED STATES OF AMERICA V. ONE SOLID GOLD OBJECT IN FORM OF A ROOSTER

Interesting read here.  In 1960, this 14-pound gold rooster violated the 1934 Gold Reserve Act.    Click on the link below.

GOLD HITS 7-WEEK HIGH

The price of gold hit a seven-week high Tuesday.  Prices are getting close to the $1,300 mark.  Bullish technical charts, a weaker U.S. dollar and safe-haven demand are all working for gold at the moment.  Gold was last up $15.10 an ounce at $1,294.40.

The question is will the U.S. dollar continue to decline?  The dollar is at a sixth-month low right now.  I see gold at 1,500 if the dollar continues to fall.  The Federal Reserve will meet next week.  I expect the Fed will slightly raise interest rates.

GOLD HITS 2-WEEK HIGH

It looks like the market is responding to chaos in the white house.  The New York Times report said President Trump tried to influence an FBI probe into links between his inner circle and Russia.  It doesn't look promising for Trump's growth agenda.

Gold for June delivery gained $22.30, or 1.8%, to settle at $1,258.70 an ounce.  The U.S. dollar fell 0.4% to 97.69.  Silver briefly hit 17.00 an ounce this afternoon.

More Trump drama to come?

ONE UNIQUE COIN IN MY COLLECTION

The 2014 Niue 1 oz Silver Swiss Wildlife High Relief Capricorn is not your typical coin.  It features a mountain goat with an impressive high relief antique finish.  On the reverse, Queen Elizabeth II is visible.  The legal tender value is 2 dollars.  Low mintage of only 999 coins.

I purchased this coin from APMEX a few years ago.  I don't recommend buying these silver art coins because the premiums are very high.  I bought it for the great design and quality.  It's a great display piece. A couple art coins is ok for your collection.  Don't spend too much money.

WHAT IS JUNK SILVER?

Hello again fellow bullion investors.  My friends ask me "What is Junk Silver"?  I tell them junk refers to silver coinage minted prior to 1965.  The coins contained 90% silver.  "Junk" means they have no numismatic or collector value.  You buy these coins for the metal content.

Common U.S. junk coins include Mercury dimes (1916-45) and Washington quarters (1932, 1934-64) These coins are great for beginners because the premiums are low.  You don't need a lot of money to get started.  Divisibility is great. Junk silver is easy to acquire.  I always check my loose change for silver.  It's getting harder and harder but you never know!  Get started with junk silver today.
